Will Bawumia, Our Brother In Islam Ever Stand For Allah Against Lgbtq-plus; 7th February, 2024 @ Upsa On Our Minds? – Adel Ibn Sheick Umar Ibrahim

Over the last two decades, issues regarding lesbians, gays, bisexuals and all the koomininis have become more topical. Placing every religion, culture, tribe’s etc, position on the front pages, except for Alhaji Dr. M. Bawumia; Our Muslim Brother.

Ensakai, a muslim youth organisation interested in the promotion of good morales in the Zongo communities in Ghana wonder whether the Vice president is unaware of the front pages, or has simply lost touch with happenings. Almost as though he agrees with the president, Nana Akuffo Addo and his political party that, it most certainly ‘is bound to happen’. So much such that even when the Government clandestinely included LGBTQX in the sexuality education of our young ones in the basic education level. He, the Vice President Bawumia did not speak a word against it. As Muslims it disgust us to think that the vice president Bawumia would rather our daughters and sons learn from age 8 that he /she can marry another woman or man, than lose perhaps whatever support he craves for from the LGBTQX community.

Has he not heard all the discerning voices calling on him to speak to the issues. Does he again not know, that, To lead, is to prove ones capacity to work towards enhancing the interest of the people.

On countless occasions the former president, H.E John Dramani Mahama, who happens to be from amongst our half brothers (the Christian’s) has spoken on the subject as to what his position is on LGBTQ Plus, including the most recent comment he made during an address to Zongo chiefs in Koforidua on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

The key word up there is ‘Zongo’; Again It’s almost as if the former president, John Mahama is closer in deeds to the muslims, than our brother the Vice President, even though the former has taken a stance on his religious beliefs and stuck to it. We can say on authority that the christian fraternity will be proud of H.E. John Mahama for holding onto his integrity and protecting to the best of his ability his faith. How beautiful to the christian, watching John Mahama speak on this subject with passion. Indicating with pride that his religions frowns upon it.

The Vice Presidents, Alhaji Dr. M. Bawumia puts us, the muslims to shame by his silence, and we believe it is about time he made clear, in plain language what his position is on LGBTQ+. Let him not make the average muslim feel they don’t have a voice from amongst themselves even though he the vice president occupies a very important portfolio. What could possibly be his excuse for not taking a stance on the subject? Can he at least deal with this issue so we can focus on his competence rather than having to worry in addition to that his religious steadfastness.

Several issues have arisen during the last two decades that have witnessed the former president Mahama make sure the interest of everyone is guarded regardless of religion, tribe, culture etc. In Islam we would have named him ‘Aadil’ meaning ‘JUST’. He most certainly is, a just leader.

John Mahama’s efforts on managing the dollar as the head of EMT which directly affects Hajj. Today, hajj has reached a whopping Ghc75,000 from ghc11,900 in 2016. Where is our muslim brother the Alhaji Bawumia.

Mahama saw to the building of tamale airport which saw to it that pilgrims travelled straight to Saudi from tamale for the first time in 2016. Where is Our muslim brother the Alhaji Bawumia?

Mahama Played a direct role in the continuation and completion of the national mosque. Again we ask, Where is Our muslim brother Alhaji Bawumia?

Mahama saw to the Training of 250 muslim girls in Cuba to be doctors. Where is Our muslim brother Alhaji Bawumia?

What about the hijab issues, what about the muslim holidays ..

we can go on and on and on. Where is Our muslim brother, Alhaji Dr. M. Bawumia, the Vice President?

We are by this calling on the Vice President, to make a stance, perhaps in his next lecture at the university of professional studies happening on the 7th of February 2024, and bring to us the muslim community some pride and comfort.
