Hawa Koomson Threatens Legal Action Against GJA President Over Assault Allegations

Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has issued a challenge to the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) to substantiate accusations linking her to the assault on Cape FM journalist David Kobbina during her vetting in Cape Coast.

Koomson dismissed the GJA’s decision to impose a media blackout on her as inaccurate, emphasizing that it does not align with the events as they unfolded. She has vowed to pursue legal recourse against GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour and the association unless they retract the blackout directive or furnish evidence supporting the assault claims.

“I had intended to address the GJA’s statement earlier, but electoral commitments intervened. Now that I’ve concluded my interview, I can respond. I was present in Cape Coast for vetting and engaged with the media afterward, yet no one raised this issue with me. It was surprising to learn about the alleged assault through the media,” Koomson stated.

Expressing skepticism regarding the GJA’s investigative process, Koomson asserted that the association failed to thoroughly probe the matter before imposing sanctions. She challenged Dwumfour to provide evidence of her involvement in the assault or issue an apology, warning of legal action if these demands are not met.

“I don’t believe the GJA conducted a comprehensive inquiry before implementing the blacklist. Despite assurances from the GJA President to share footage of the incident, I’ve received no communication. I urge him to either substantiate the allegations or retract them. Otherwise, we will address this matter in court,” Koomson conveyed to masemtvgh.com.
