NDC Odododiodioo Primary Rescheduled for January 21 After Court Dismisses Case

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set a new date, January 21, 2024, for its parliamentary primary in the Odododiodioo constituency. This decision comes in the wake of the dismissal of an application for an interlocutory injunction by a disqualified candidate, which had previously led to the indefinite postponement of the election.

Fifi Fiavi Kwettey, the General Secretary of the NDC, revealed in a statement issued on Friday that an Accra High Court had dismissed the application for an interlocutory injunction on January 19. Consequently, the party is now resuming the processes leading up to the parliamentary election in Odododiodioo.

“The primaries at Odododiodioo have consequently been rescheduled for Sunday, January 21, 2024,” stated Kwettey.

Background:

In November 2023, the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC disqualified Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from participating in the parliamentary election in the Odododiodioo Constituency. The decision was based on findings by a special committee that examined the disqualification, citing Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution, which requires a member to be an active party member at the constituency level for the four years immediately preceding the nomination filing date.

The party had initially postponed the Odododiodioo primary indefinitely due to a court injunction obtained by the disqualified candidate. However, with the court’s dismissal of the case, the NDC has now received clearance to proceed with the primary on the rescheduled date.
