The somber aftermath of the tragic accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway saw the funeral proceedings for Fuseni Mumuni, the loyal bodyguard who served as a close protection officer to Second Lady Samira Bawumia for over five years.
Fuseni Mumuni met his untimely demise on Saturday, January 13, when a commercial vehicle collided with one of the vehicles in the Second Lady’s convoy as they returned from Bonwire in the Ashanti region.
Mrs. Samira Bawumia, accompanied by officials from the office of the Vice President, gathered at the Madina Muslim cemetery on Sunday to bid a final farewell to the devoted bodyguard. Among those present was Sammi Awuku, the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), who paid tribute to Mumuni’s unwavering commitment.
“This is one of the strong patriots that I know. This is somebody who, on any day when there is a call to duty, he is present and he makes himself available and he supports. He died in the line of duty,” expressed Mr. Awuku in an interview with Citi News.
Offering condolences to the grieving family, he acknowledged the irreplaceable loss and prayed for comfort and solace, saying, “May this God who keeps the orphans, the widows, and the poor comfort them. And we pray for the repose of our brother’s soul.”
As the community mourns the loss of Fuseni Mumuni, an ongoing investigation is seeking to determine the cause of the fatal crash. The eight victims, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were promptly rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the rescue team arrived at the crash scene at 13:12 hours on Saturday. The collision involved a Toyota Land Cruiser (GC-9094-21), Toyota Land Cruiser (VR-2105-15), Mercedes Benz C180 (NR-1977-18), and a Benz Sprinter (GE-7256-14).
