Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Retires from Parliament After Nearly Three Decades of Service

Concluding an esteemed parliamentary career spanning nearly 28 years, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency in the Ashanti region, has officially announced his retirement.

The formal declaration was made during a meeting with the constituency executives, where the Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs communicated his decision.

Having consistently represented the people of Suame under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) banner, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu leaves behind a legacy of unwavering dedication and leadership.

His retirement announcement signifies a pivotal moment in the political landscape of the constituency, setting the stage for upcoming parliamentary primaries.

As the seasoned legislator steps down, attention shifts to potential successors who have already entered the race by picking up nomination forms. Notable contenders include Mr Maxwel Ofosu Boakye, the Municipal Chief Executive for Suame, and Mr John Darko, a Lawyer Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

In the unfolding political scenario in Suame, Lawyer John Darko has officially submitted his nomination forms, positioning himself as a contender. The anticipation now surrounds the filing of nomination forms by Mr Maxwel Ofosu Boakye, the Municipal Chief Executive for Suame, who is expected to join the race.

Confirming the retirement decision to Class 91.3 FM’s correspondent for Kumasi, Elisha Adarkwa, Mr Count Abban Duker, the Constituency Chairman, expressed gratitude for Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s significant contributions and assured constituents of a smooth transition within the party.

As Suame prepares for a shift in parliamentary representation, the retirement of Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu symbolizes the conclusion of an era.
