The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has voiced his disapproval of Ghana’s repeated requests for financial aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), marking the 17th such instance.
During a public forum in Ho as part of Ghana’s Parliament 30th-anniversary commemoration, Speaker Bagbin stressed that no society worldwide has ever progressed solely through IMF assistance.
He expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of Ghana’s approach in seeking recurrent financial support from the IMF, stating, “The IMF has never facilitated the development of any country or society.” Speaker Bagbin called for a shift in perspective and a reassessment of the nation’s development strategy. He urged a reconsideration to chart a more sustainable and efficacious path for development.
