Nitiwul, Kan-Dapaah to appear before Parliament today over Kintampo clash

The Ministers of Defence and National Security, Dominic Aduna Bingab Nitiwul and Albert Kan-Dapaah are scheduled to appear before the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament today, Thursday, 23 November 2023.

Both Ministers will address concerns and outline actions being taken by government to avert a potential clash between the Mo and Wangara tribes in the Kintampo North municipality.

The two ministers were summoned before the House following heightened tensions related to the Mo tribe’s request to perform rituals during November and December, coinciding with the annual Klubi festival of the Wangara community.

Member of Parliament (MP) for the affected area, Joseph Kwame Kumah, had highlighted the urgency of the matter, prompting a directive from the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for immediate government intervention to ensure peaceful coexistence.

The MP speaking on the floor of Parliament, emphasised the significance of the chieftaincy institution in maintaining peace and security, urging the National Security Council to intervene, prompting the summoning of the Ministers.

“The National Security Council through their regional office should immediately intervene because the chieftaincy institution is one of the cornerstones of the peace and security of our country, and we hold that institution dearly.

“We will do everything to prevent that institution from falling into disarray,” the MP stated.
