Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Legon has set another back-to-back record after defending the National Science & Maths Quiz trophy won last year.
Presec-Legon, as the all-boys’ school is popularly called, beat Achimota School and Opoku Ware School on Monday, October 30 to win the 2023 edition.
With a total of 40 points, Presec become winners of the annual Science and Maths contest for a record eighth time.
They led the competition from Round 1, when they answered the very first question inside the highly charged venue, the National Theatre, albeit getting 2 out of the 3 points from the Quiz Mistress, Professor Elsie Effa Kaufmann.
Opoku Ware School matched them in this opening round of questions after they also got 2 out of 3 points in their maiden question.
Nonetheless, the Presecans jumped to the lead at the end of the Round, amassing a total of 18 points. Achimota trailed with 11 points while OWASS was last in the round with 9 points.
Presec-Legon kept the lead in Round 2, ending with 23 points.
It was Kumasi-based Opoku Ware School, which leapfrogged Achimota School to come second. The scores were 14 and 12 respectively.
The Problem of the Day round proved little for each of the schools as their scores did not go beyond 5. Presec had 4 put of 10, OWASS had 3 oit of 10 and Achimota School had 2 out of 10.
Though Achimota School gave their fellow Greater Accra school a scare in Round 4, it was too little too late.
The Blue Magicians proved why they are masters of the Science & Maths quiz, extending their score to 40 at the end of the contest.
Achimota School came second with 28 points while OWASS was last with 23 points.
