The Former President of Ghana and the Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has gone to the aide of flood victims in the Bono East Region.
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, led a delegation with the Regional Chairman, Mr Unas Owusu of the Bono East Region, to donate these relief items to the affected people on behalf of their Flagbearer, HE John Dramani Mahama who is currently outside the country.
In the month of October 2023, the Volta River Authority (VRA) initiated a controlled release of water from the Akosombo Dam. This measure was taken to safeguard the dam from potential overtopping. The increased water flow in the Volta River has, unfortunately, led to flooding in low-lying areas along its course, impacting communities such as Mepe, Battor, Sogakope Mafi, Adidome, Ada, and others displacing thousands of people from their residence.
Some constituencies in the Bono East Region such as Sene West, Sene East and Pru were also affected by the flood. According to the Bono East Regional Chairman for the NDC, six (6) communities have been wiped away while over forty-five (45) communities submerged.
The Bono East NDC Regional Chairman disclosed this information to Masemtvgh on Sunday, October 29, 2023 prior to the distribution of these relief items to the various affected communities.
Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who led this powerful delegation on behalf of Former President Mahama and the Member of Parliament for the affected areas, together with the NDC Regional and Constituency Executives presented items such as student mattresses, school bags, clothes and food items on behalf of the Flagbearer and leader of the NDC, HE John Dramani Mahama.
The National Chairman and leader of the delegation, Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketiah in his speech, reiterated the need to assist the affected flood victims and indicated that the former President and Flagbearer of the NDC would have been there in person to comfort and solidarise with them but an earlier program had taken him outside the country.
