A former presidential aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has commended the former President of Ghana and the Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, the NDC, for his Community Day Senior High School policy.
Former President John Mahama under his tenure initiated a policy where two hundred new SHS were to be build within various communities to ensure that these beneficiary communities take charge of the schools to provide free day Senior High School education to students. Amongst the two hundred proposed schools, 120 of them were initiated where 56 of them were completed in 2016 whilst the remaining were at the various stages of completion.
Mr Alan Kyerematen in his interview on UTV in Accra on Tuesday, 26th September 2023 and monitored by Masemtvgh.com indicated the need to review the current free SHS policy when voted into power as president.
”I will review Free SHS, we have implemented this policy for seven years. You cannot rollout a policy for 7 years without reviewing it” Mr Kyerematen.
According to Mr Kyerematen, there is one key policy which was initiated by the Mahama administration which needed to be strengthened. ”President Mahama brought a policy – community day SHS which I commend him for that but that seems to be left out of the free SHS. It is a policy we must look at it and continue” he added.
He added that his government will not only ensure that the policy guarantees access to education but also maintain and enhance the quality of education children receive.
Mr Kyerematen further elaborated on his plans, highlighting the need for increased investment in infrastructure, teacher training, and curriculum development.
He stressed the importance of creating a well-rounded education system that prepares students for both academic and practical challenges.
