Alan’s resignation : Remain calm; we’ll hold a press conference on Tuesday to respond – NPP tells members

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has told members of the party to remain calm as they address issues of the resignation of former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen.

The party in a statement issued by its General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on Monday September 25 said that it has taken “notice of the unfortunate decision of Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a long-standing member of the Party to forfeit his membership, and contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections.

“The Party leadership is by this medium, urging the rank and file of our great Party to remain calm and await an official address by the Party to Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation at 14:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 26, 2023, at the Party headquarters. May God bless our homeland Ghana and make the New Patriotic Party great and strong.”

Mr Kyeremanten has announced his resignation from the NPP today Monday, September 25 to enable him to contest for the office of president as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 elections.

He announced in Accra at a press conference. This makes it the second time he is resigning from the NPP after he first did so in 2007 but later returned.

Mr Kyerematen said that he had come to the realisation that his contributions were no longer needed in the party hence his resignation.

He said this followed the harsh treatment meted out to his supporters by the party.

“Persons associated with me are treated with disdain and outright outcast,” Mr Kyerematen who placed third in the super delegates conference of the NPP held on August 26 said.

He accused the leadership of the NPP of skewing the internal elections in favour of one particular aspirant.
