The Minority Leader in Parliament has warded off the perception that the economy is struggling as a result of its poor state prior to the administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Dr Cassiel Ato Forson says no one, especially the current administration, should ever say the National Democratic Congress (NDC) left behind an ailing economy.
“Again, the NDC left behind a robust economy with very strong buffers,” Dr Ato Forson stressed in a statement on Monday, September 18.
“The Mahama government left behind the Sinking Fund, Stabilisation Fund, Ghana Infrastructure Investment Bank (GIIF), Ghana EXIM Bank as well as a robust tax revenue and oil revenue.”
This follows recent condemnation of the Minority in its calls for the Governor of the Bank of Ghana to resign after recording a ¢60.8 billion loss in 2022.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta made a rallying call on Ghanaians to support Dr Ernest Yedu Addison and his team for saving the economy in 2022.
He insists what Dr Addison came to meet was nothing to write home about and should rather be praised for doing a good job so far.
But the Minority Leader warned the Finance Minister not to repeat such wrong assertions.
“The Minister of Finance should carry his mess and his shame,” the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Member of Parliament (MP) stressed.
“He should not bring the NDC into matters that border on his greed, state capture for his family and friends as well as his monumental failure in pubic office.
“We did better than they are doing and the NDC will always do better when the good people of Ghana give John Mahama and our party the opportunity to govern from January, 2025.”
