Ablakwa writes to BoG Governor over suspected deal involving Akufo-Addo’s in-law

The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has written to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana under the Right to Information (RTI) Law to seek answers on some transactions by the Central Bank.

In his letter dated Monday, September 11, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP asked 10 questions regarding a change of decision in the erection of a head office at the Accra Marine Drive Project.

He also alleged that an amount of $5 million was paid to a company, Marine Metro Development Limited, only incorporated in 2020.

“Incontrovertible incorporation documents obtained from the Office of the Registrar of Companies reveal that Dr Kwame Nyantekyi-Owusu is a Director of Marine Metro Development Limited,” the fifth pointer in the letter noted.

“From the Bank of Ghana’s 2020, 2021 and 2022 Annual Report and Financial Statements, it is noted that Dr Kwame Nyantekyi-Owusu has been appointed to and serves as a Non-Executive Director of the board of Bank of Ghana.

“Does this not present an unmistakable and unmitigated case of blatant conflict of interest?” he asks.

Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa also alleged that the man in question “is a powerful brother-in-law of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is not new to questionable deals of this nature”.
