NDC North East Region Strongly Condemns Recent Violence And Warns Against Repetition In 2024 Elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) vehemently condemns the disturbing incidents of violence that marred the recently concluded NPP special delegates conference, particularly in the North East region and other regions across the country. Such acts of violence have no place in a democratic society and are a flagrant violation of the principles that underpin our political process.

It is disheartening to witness scenes of chaos and aggression in the backyard(Nalerigu) of the vice president who happens to be part of the race to the NPP flagbearship. We are concern as NDC leadership in the region as we expected the supporters of the Vice President to have demonstrated a level of political maturity. particularly during a time when political parties should be focusing on discussing ideas, policies, and solutions that can positively impact the lives of our citizens. The NDC firmly believes that political discourse must be characterized by respect, tolerance, and the free exchange of ideas, without resorting to violence or intimidation.

As we approach the 2024 general elections, the NDC issues a stern warning to NPP that any attempts to replicate such acts of violence against our party will be met with unwavering resistance. We value the principles of peace, unity, and democratic engagements, and we will not stand idly by while the democratic process is undermined by violence.

We call upon all political actors to exercise restraint and to prioritize constructive engagement with their fellow citizens. The NDC believes in a Ghana where the electorate is able to make informed decisions based on constructive debates and sound policy proposals, rather than being influenced by fear or aggression.

Although it’s usual of the NPP leadership to always shield criminals or leave people off the hook, the NDC nonetheless urges the authorities to thoroughly investigate the recent incidents of violence and ensure that justice is served. We also implore the relevant institutions to take necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of such events, thereby safeguarding the integrity of our democratic system.

The NDC remains committed to fostering an environment where every Ghanaian can participate in the political process without fear and intimidation. We extend an invitation to all political parties to join us in upholding the principles of democracy, unity, and respect for one another.
