Otumfuo destools Bekwai – Abodomhene over galamsey activities

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled Chief of Bekwai – Abodom, Nana Saforo Koto.

The destoolment was triggered after he failed to justify his innocence in the about 20 charges brought against by some resident of his community.

The Chief was accused of indiscriminate sale of lands to illegal miners promoting ‘galamseyer’ that has caused destruction to water bodies in the area.

He was again accused of abandoning the use of his community for 7years leading to non-performance of the necessary traditional rite and rituals in the stool house and among several other traditional activities.

SUB-Chiefs under his authority accused Nana Saforo Koto, for blatantly disregarding traditional rites as Chief.

Otumfuo Kyeame Kwaku Owusu speaking on the occasion disclosed that the disgruntled Chief failed to respond to all the charges brought against him at the committee level during the hearing where had opportunity to respond to the charges.

After hearing from the various divisional Chiefs, Otumfuo pronounced him guilty of all charges brought against him and hence distooled him.

Before the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II several Chief involved in illegal mining activities will be destooled if found guilty to end unfortunate pollution of River bodies through illegal mining.
