BECE: GNECC calls on WAEC to prevent leakage of exams questions

The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) has extended its warmest wishes to the over 600,000 candidates who will be sitting for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) for School which begins on Monday, August 7, 2023 to Friday, August 11, 2023.

In a statement GNECC reminded all candidates of the importance of integrity and honesty during the exams.

“The BECE is a significant milestone in the educational journey of every Ghanaian child. It serves as a gateway to higher education opportunities and future career prospects. GNECC recognizes the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices made by both students and their teachers in preparing for this examination.

“We would like to emphasize the importance of upholding ethical standards and avoiding any form of exam malpractice. Cheating does not only undermines the integrity of the examination process but also hampers the development of a fair and merit-based education system,” National Coordinator for GNECC, Bernice Mpere-Gyekye stated.

GNECC also urged all candidates to rely on their knowledge, skills, and preparation to excel in their exams.

Furthermore, GNECC calls upon the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to enhance security measures and take proactive steps to prevent any leakage of examination questions.

According to GNECC, leakage of exam questions not only compromises the fairness of the examination but also erodes public trust in the education system.

“We urge WAEC to strengthen its systems, employ advanced technologies, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure a secure and transparent examination process.

“GNECC remains committed to advocating for quality pre-tertiary education in Ghana. We believe that every child deserves access to a high-quality education that equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge for personal growth and national development.”
