NDC refuses to see the impact of Covid, Russia-Ukraine war on economy – Richard Ahiagbah

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah has lashed out at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for being selfish and not seeing the impact of covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war on the global economy and ultimately Ghana.

According to Richard Ahiagbah the statement by the finance minister that ‘Ghana has turned the corner’ remains true despite the challenges the government experienced at a time when growth was triggered negatively by covid and Russia-Ukraine war.

“You would see in the history of this government from 2017 up till now record, as very clear that the economy that what we inherited was the economy in a free fall,
But in the first year in office we started turning things around and growing the economy, we did so in 2018 and we did so in 2019 until COVID then something triggered, that’s the point of trigger, COVID happened which the NDC doesn’t want to accept it did happen”

Richard says the conversation on Ghana’s economy should be properly contextualised by communicators when they mount various platforms to speak.

“They give numbers from other places that are out of context and where there is no baseline in Togo to do that. When in 2019 COVID happened and our economy went into a tailspin, the global economy went into a tail spin” Ghana wasn’t left out, the GDP outcome for west Africa shows performance had dipped”

The NPP communications Director believes despite the slow growth things would turn around but NDC must accept the egregious impact of a world super power like Russia choosing to go to war.

“Russia war led to a crisis supply chain integrity Russia is a global force to contend with their decisions are key”
“Russia war has economic ramifications and that the admission of the world led to a crisis supply chain integrity which resulted in cost of living hikes which resulted in high energy cost”
