The economy of Ghana still contains remnants of colonial rule, which President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is concerned about since it continues to have a negative impact on the nation.
However, he gave the people his word that firm action would be done to move away from the country’s present raw material production and export economy and towards an industrialised, modern, and value-added one.
Prior to the disruptions brought on by the Covid-19 outbreak and the Russia-Ukraine war, all economic indicators, in the opinion of President Akufo-Addo, were pointing in the direction of the achievement of this objective.
He emphasised that despite the economy’s difficulties, considerable advancements had been made in a number of different fields.
“As President of the Republic, I have been preoccupied above all with making my tenure in office in Ghana a period that our country builds the foundation from exporting raw materials and retailing of imported goods to a modern, value-adding industrialised one.”
In recognition of this year’s Founders’ Day, the President gave these remarks at a banquet given in senior citizens’ honour. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia attended the event, which was held at the Jubilee House’s banquet hall.
Ghana celebrates Founders’ Day on August 4 to honour the efforts made by earlier generations in achieving independence from colonial authority and creating the nation-state.
