In a determined effort to secure the completion of the long-neglected Asueyi-Buoyem-Mesidan and Krobo-Agosa Roads, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Techiman North MP, took to the floor of parliament once again on July 28, 2023. This marked her third time utilizing parliamentary tools to demand action and bring much-needed benefits to her constituents.
During the intense Question Time session, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare directed her queries to the Roads and Highways Minister, pressing for an update on when the contractor would resume work on the unfinished roads. The Minister’s response shed light on crucial facts surrounding the history and current state of the roads, which she deemed essential to share with the public.
According to the Minister’s revelation, the contract for the roads had been awarded as far back as October 30, 2015. Actual construction work finally commenced on November 29, 2015, with an initial completion date set for March 29, 2017. However, progress had been disappointingly slow, with only about 48% of the work completed.
Adding to the frustration, the government decided to terminate the contract on September 2, 2022, barely a year ago. The termination raised concerns about the fate of these critical infrastructure projects. The Minister informed the parliament that there are plans to reconsider the roads in the upcoming 2024 budget, but this is subject to the availability of funds.
Not willing to wait until 2024 for potential progress, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare passionately appealed to the Ministry to carry out some remedial works on the roads before then. She emphasized the urgent need to relieve farmers in the region, who have been struggling to transport their agricultural produce due to the deplorable condition of the roads.
With a determined spirit and a commitment to her promises, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, affectionately known as #AdjarePromisesAdjareDelivers, continues to champion the cause of her constituents, seeking to bring positive change and development to her constituency, #NyameWomu.
