Ghana’s Justice System Losing Credibility and Trust, Raises Major Concerns – ADAM-GH Calls for Restoring Integrity

Executive Secretary of Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana ADAM-GH, Mr Azubila Emmanuel Abdul-Salam has raised serious concerns over the trend in which the country’s justice system is taking its shape in the country and the perception and the trust the citizenry have about the Judicial system.

According to him, the country Ghana which has been touted as a beacon of democracy over the past years and has achieved monumental achievements in democratic principles in Africa is sharply losing its credibility and bragging rights which must be a major concern to all Ghanaians.

“When I sit down and look at the way and manner families mourn their departed souls during Campaigns in Assin North, the manner in which people suffered various degree of injuries, money that the country lost in conducting the Assin North by-election coupled with the harsh economic conditions of Ghanaians, unnecessary political tension created and time wasted for this needles and political verdict from the supreme court, one may not be far from right to say that the Justices system currently in Ghana is a curse to Ghanaians than a blessing”

He added that ,Laws are meant for people and therefore, Judges must consider the effect of biased political judgments and public reactions that follows.

ADAM-GH as a civil society organization that anchors on proper democratic principles has taken sober reflection of the whole issue, considering the public opinion, advice of traditional leaders and men of God and even some opinion of High Court Judges about the most unfortunate judgment that nearly threw this country into darkness.

” I think the justice system in Ghana has lost its values and credibility which is a major concern to all Ghanaians ” He said

Mr Azubila made this comments at the backdrop of the unfortunate comment made by the President of the Republic, Nana Akuffo Addo ,the State Attorney , Godfred Dame and some senior members of the ruling government, the prejudicial comments and the belligerent actions of the supreme court, there is no undeniable fact that the judicial system in Ghana has been soiled and tainted thus now acting as “yes men” to the president and government top officials.

He added” As Ghanaians, it is our duty to protect the integrity of our country and all institutions and continue to see Ghana Democracy as our bragging rights.”

He further indicated that citizenry must rise up as a nation to resist the oppressors rule and restore the dignity of Nkrumah’s Ghana.

He reiterated that Ghana has grown beyond having such porous justices in the various courts who are stooges to their appointing authorities.

“The Judges should be impartial in handling political issues in the country.”he said

“As a CSO we are adding our voices to many Ghanaians who are admonishing the government to drop the so-called criminal charges against Hon. GYAKYE QUAYSON, the second time elected Member of Parliament of Assin North.”

He also disclosed that the Attorney General should take key interest in the 2020 Auditors General report where Judges fraudulently auction 2 years old and 3 years old Toyota Land cruisers to themselves, adding that it is more criminal than the needles GYAKYE QUAYSON’s case.

Mr Azubila bemoaned that Judges who are supposed to help fight corruption are now engaging in corrupt practices robbing the nation in broad daylight and turn out to be showing interest in a mediocre.

He appealed to the state Attorney to respectfully drop Hon.GYAKYE QUAYSON’S case to save the country from further embarrassment.
