The former District Chief Executive and the current Member of Parliament for the Tain Constituency in the Bono Region of Ghana has credited the late former President of Ghana for eradicating schools under trees under his tenure.
The Tain Member of Parliament made this statement at the Regional commemorative lecture for the late former President in Sunyani on Saturday, 1st July, 2023.
This Regional commemorative lecture was organized by the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo and the Western North regions in Sunyani.
In an interview on Masemtvgh with the Tain MP, Hon Adama Sulemana was full of praise in eulogizing the late former President describing him as a man of peace.
When asked of the reasons why he was full of joy at the program, the MP stated that the day was a great day in remembering a legend, the reason of his happiness.
”I am happy today because we are remembering a legend” he said. Hon Adama Sulemana added that ”the first legacy of the Mills was peace and tranquility that he offered Ghanaian under his reign”. To the MP, these attributes were great assets that cannot be underrated. According to the MP, peace and tranquility were of higher importance than any physical asset. Hon Sulemana then bemoaned the rate at which the Akufo-Addo led NPP government has brought intimidation and led the country into tensions creating fear and panic.
”Under Mills, he saw every citizen as a Ghanaian and never discriminated against any tribe, race or anyone base on his or her tribe or hometown but sadly, same cannot be said about the current Akufo-Addo led NPP government”.
Hon Sulemana further highlighted on some of the unique initiatives that were established and achieved under the Mills administration.
”One thing Prof Mills can be remembered for is the eradication of schools under trees. Whenever I see school pupils learning under trees of late, I remember Prof Mills who ensured that there was no school under trees” he stressed.
The Tain MP again laid emphasis on why the various districts, municipal and metropolitan assemblies witnessed massive infrastructural projects.
Under Mills administration, assembly common funds were increased to 7.5% and these monies were released to the assemblies on time for various project works and that was the reason we witnessed massive project works across all the various assemblies at the local level.
The Tain MP then admonished the leaders of the National Democratic Congress, to go back to what he described as the ”Mills principal” going into the 2024 general elections. We left the teachings of Mills behind us by embarking on door to door campaign, the campaign of the grassroots that brought us into power in the 2008 general elections. This campaign strategy was deployed in the just ended by-election at the Assin North which worked well and saw our victory and that going into the 2024 general elections, this same campaign strategy will be used and enhanced for our victory.
