Voters in Assin North go to the polls today to elect an MP

Today, Tuesday, June 27, voters in the Assin North constituency in the Central Region will participate in a by-election to select their next representative in Parliament.

The previous election, held in 2020, was declared null and void by the Supreme Court due to the winning candidate, James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), holding dual citizenship when he filed his nomination forms.

As a result, the court instructed Parliament to remove Mr. Quayson’s name from its records.

The Electoral Commission (EC) promptly scheduled the by-election for June 27 to fill the vacant parliamentary seat.

Three candidates are competing for the position: James Gyakye Quayson of the NDC, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).

Today, the voters in Assin North have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right and choose their new representative in Parliament. The outcome of this by-election will determine who will occupy the seat and serve the constituency going forward.
