The Oil Tanker Drivers Association in Greater Accra has initiated a sit-down strike in protest against the poor road network connecting various oil depots in Tema, Kpone, and its environs.
Sunday Alabi, the Vice Chairman of the association, expressed concerns about the deteriorating condition of the road leading to the petroleum depot, particularly the presence of numerous dangerous potholes.
He emphasised that considering the highly flammable nature of fuel, the risk posed to their safety in case of an accident was unacceptable.
As a result of the strike, the supply of fuel to marketing companies and bulk distributors, including Cirrus Oil Services, Goil Petroleum, Star Oil, Total Petroleum, and Galaxy Oil, is expected to be severely affected.
The strike will also impact commercial and private vehicles, as well as mining companies operating in the area.
Vice Chairman Sunday Alabi emphasised that although the strike was intended to be non-violent, its repercussions would be keenly felt by the general public.
