The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Torffey, has extended words of encouragement to James Gyakye Quayson, the deposed National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Assin North.
Gyakye Quayson is currently standing trial for criminal charges and has been ordered to appear in court on a daily basis for trial by an Accra High Court.
Despite facing issues of dual citizenship herself, the Jomoro MP won her case and believes that God will see Mr Quayson through his ordeal.
In a tweet on Tuesday, June 20, she wrote, “I can assure you, Mr. Quayson, that God will not fail you. The good people of Assin North will not fail you. The NDC fraternity will not fail you.”
Mr. Gyakye Quayson’s name was expunged from Parliament by the Supreme Court after being found guilty of dual citizenship.
My attention has been drawn to the happenings in court today over my brother, Mr. James Gyakye Quayson’s trial. I am told the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice made a case for expeditious trial, therefore Mr. Quayson would make a daily appearance when the case begin. I… pic.twitter.com/gQU00xClV5

This led to a by-election, which is slated for Tuesday, June 27, in which he is contesting again.
The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice have made a case for an expeditious trial, and Mr Quayson will have to make a daily appearance when the case begins.
The Jomoro MP expressed her disappointment with the A-G’s decision to push for an immediate trial, despite pleas from the defense counsel to wait until after the by-election.
“I am saddened by the move by the A-G despite the pleas by the defence counsel to grant him the opportunity to begin the case after the June 27 Assin North Constituency by-election,” she expressed.
Despite the challenges he is currently facing, Mr Quayson said he remains undeterred and determined to win the upcoming by-election.
In a recent interview, he noted: “I believe the people of Assin North know me, and they know what I stand for. I am confident that I will win the by-election and continue to serve my constituents. They can even make me go to court on the Election Day, I will win.”
