Take action and stop placing unnecessary burdens on the average Ghanaian – Prof. Gatsi to Gov’t

The Dean of the University Of Cape Coast School Of Business, Professor John Gatsi is urging the government to get to work at restoring microeconomic indicators of the country.

He bemoaned the continuous burdening of the ordinary Ghanaian.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, in an update on Ghana’s economy said securing the extended credit facility from the International Monetary Fund does not mean an automatic end of the economic challenges facing the country.

According to him, the IMF programme comes rather as a forerunner to the execution of a programme that will bring about the needed economic reforms.

Speaking on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah Prof. Gatsi stated that the government must get to work and desist from off-loading burdens on the Ghanaian people.

“I think sacrificing is inevitable but I think there should be a major level of sacrificing and indeed Ghanaians have gone through a major level of sacrificing already. To pile on more sacrificing on them is a burden.

“The government should not off-load burdens to Ghanaians. Whatever engagement that the government will have with the IMF programme it should not waste time. What we need now is for the government to begin work.

He continued: “If you want to engage the people on more about what they have sacrificed so far I think that will not be a nice thing. What needs to be done is for the government to get to work and forget about some things they call engagement. Only to go and impose the will of the government on the people.”
