Government has no involvement in OSP Frimpong-Boateng Tango – Presidential Staffer

Presidential Staffer, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has absolved the government of any blame in the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and Prof. Frimpong Boateng tango.

It follows a claim by Former GIMPA rector, Prof. Stephen Adei that the former Environment Minister Prof. Frimpong Boateng is being victimized.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng was arrested by the Special Prosecutor to account for expenditure during his time as Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining barely a month after a report in which some public officials including staff at the presidency were said to be involved in illegal mining operations, came to public light.

But, speaking at the 33rd annual general meeting of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIMG), the economist wondered why Prof. Frimpong Boateng was arrested by the Special Prosecutor for exposing the rot.

Commenting on the development on GHOne TV Thursday, the Presidential Staffer indicated that the notion that high public officials are being persecuted while the main accused persons are walking free is not true.

“The office of the Special Prosecutor is an independent body established by an ACT of Parliament. With their powers under the law and the government has no control whatsoever over the office of the Special Prosecutor. So I am struggling to really understand why the Office of the Special Prosecutor takes an action in the same government and people see it different.

“When indeed all of us are aware that the Special Prosecutor is investigating and working on so many other cases and involves members of cabinet. So how are we not interpreting this one as well? Are we saying that those people that the Special Prosecutor is working on and their institutions are also being targeted by the government?” Mr. Aboagye asked.

He continued: “So at this point it will be very difficult for anybody to speak for the Office of the Special Prosecutor. So if I make any comment on Professor Frimpong-Boateng issue it as if I am speaking for the OSP. I don’t work with the OSP, the government doesn’t work with the OSP. It is an independent body established under the laws and status of the country.”
