Peter Amewu’s Branded Vehicle Arrested With Weapons In Kpando

The NDC in the Volta Region is seriously appalled by the increasing violent posturing of the NPP in the Volta Region, a worrying development that has the potential of marring the enviable peace and tranquility that have existed for ages.

A few days ago, precisely the 4th of June, 2023, a bizarre incident occurred when a young man by the name Buhari Mohammad was stabbed with a knife by a supporter of one of four teams engaged in a football match since Friday, 2nd June at Biheco park in Kpando.

The unfortunate incidence, according to reliable sources, was occasioned by the victim’s insistence for the supporters of Burning Stars, one of the teams involved in the football encounters and which belongs to the Hohoe NPP Constituency Organizer, to pay the mandatory gate fee for the day.

In the heat of the melee, the driver of pick-up vehicle visibly branded in John Peter Amewu’s portraits and NPP colors, fetched a pump action gun and wielded same apparently in readiness to use. Fortunately, upon a tip off, the Police from came in and eventually disarmed the gun-wielding thug and arrested the driver of the unregistered branded pick-up.

The Police went on to thoroughly search the vehicle and succeeded in retrieving four weapons which included three locally manufactured guns, one pump action gun, cartridges, four catapults, a sophisticated knife in the form of a walking stick, hand gloves, three car number plates and two motorcycle number plates. The vehicle was then moved by the Police to their Kpando Station for further investigation.

The branded vehicle, we are told, was donated by Peter Amewu for the NPP’s operation in the Hohoe Constituency. And as we speak, the vehicle and it’s content have been transferred to the Hohoe Police Station.

Indeed we are the least surprised at the situation where a pick-up vehicle loaded with weapons was moved from Hohoe at the blind side of the Police in Hohoe only to be arrested in Kpando. This is simply because we are privy to some intelligence that some NPP youth in Hohoe are stockpiling illegal weapons which they intend deploying in the 2024 Elections. We are equally informed that the Police in Hohoe are aware of this development but have deliberately turned a blind eye and a deaf ear for fear of victimization.

We however commend the Kpando Police Personnel for their prompt action in trying to keep the peace.

The NDC is therefore calling for the immediate arrest, investigation and trial of not only the driver of the pickup and the young man who stabbed Mr. Buhari Mohammad but also the Hohoe NPP Constituency Organizer who allegedly claimed ownership of the weapons and thus tried compromising the Police in Kpando.

We want to let the Police Service, not only in Kpando, know that the NDC is keenly following the case in Hohoe as well as the barbaric incident at Agortime Ziope where the DCE allegedly physically assaulted a former Women Organizer of the NPP, causing a serious damage to her eyes.

We urge the Ghana Police Service never to allow their professionalism and integrity to, in any way, be compromised by the desperate and violent NPP in the Volta Region.

Signed:
