The injunction writ filed by flag bearer aspirant Dr Kwabena Duffuor against the National Democratic Congress’ 13 May 2023 presidential primaries, is a “frivolous” and “vexatious” one calculated to frustrate the “forward march” of the party, its director of legal affairs, Mr Abraham Amaliba as said.
He told Valentina Ofori-Afriyie on Class91.3FM’s mid-day news, 12 Live, on Wednesday, 10 May 2023 that “discrepancies, when they do occur, are resolved through the use of a meeting between the elections committee and the aspirant, so, if there has been something, you don’t run to court”.
“Yesterday [Tuesday, 9 May 2023], there would have been a meeting but for this court action, where Dr Duffuor’s concerns would’ve been raised and then explanations given”, he said.
For instance, Mr Amaliba noted that “Dr Duffuor got it all wrong when he said the polling stations are 38,722. That is way above the EC’s numbers”.
“The EC doesn’t have 38,722”, Mr Amaliba insisted, stressing: “So, at that meeting, he would’ve been told that your figure is wrong, so, we only need to meet and discuss those things so that we have the elections”.
In his writ, Dr Duffuor argued that data from only 220 out of the 275 constituencies have been verified.
He also said an exceptional list of 74,799 has been created which cannot be verified because of scanty information.
For no credible reason, he noted, among others that 3,910 eligible voters at the 220 constituencies have been disenfranchised.
