Nursing is a noble and critical profession which is held in high esteem.
Nations across the globe are investing billions of their currencies into their health sectors by providing quality education for their citizens.
Here in Ghana, successive governments have invested hugely by providing infrustructure and given incentives such as allowances to students as a means to attracting the youth to go into the health sector.
This has been continued by successive governments and it has yielded fruitful result for the benefit of everyone living in Ghana.
In 2016, former president, John Daramani Mahama suggested that as part of our collective efforts to expand the health sector, his government will not be given students allowances but student loans so that money would be available for infrustructure. This, among other things made the people especially, student nurses voted JDM out of office in the 2016 general election.
The then opposition leader of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufu reiterated to continue payment of student allowances just because he wanted power without looking into the negative effects of his action.
Today, rotation nurses are on the street to demonstrate against the Nana Addo led government’s failure to pay rotation nurses allowances.
These same nurses who voted for Akufu in 2016 are the same people cought in the web in 2023.
They have forgotten that the very ball they threw on the wall has bounced back to them.
It is therefore important to note, that, the decision we take today is the result of tomorrow and that tomorrow always determines our future and that of the unborn generation.
Even though, we sympathize with the rotation nurses but we also think that things will have been better if they had not voted Akufu Addo and his NPP into office
