Despite the economic crisis, no public sector employees were laid off – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has said that there were no job losses in the public sector amid the health crisis that befell the country some years ago.

According to the President, no public sector worker was cut off from receiving their basic monthly salary despite the economic crisis the country is facing.

“Even at the peak of the global health and economic crisis of the last three years, government has ensured that no public sector worker was taken off the payroll as the result of the crisis,” he said on Monday when addressing the country during the celebration of May Day at Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga.

President Akufo-Addo maintained that government had always made it its priority to protect the incomes of the public sector workers despite cautions from organized labour.

“Mr Secretary-General, I agree with organized labour when they say protecting incomes and pensions in the era of economic crisis is our responsibility.

“This is evident by the fact that over the course of the year, government has kept every single public sector worker on the payroll. There have been no job losses. Every public sector worker continues to keep his or her job.”

President Akufo-Addo asserted that governments aims to maintain and protect public sector workers during these difficult times through the increment of the national daily minimum wage amongst others.

He explained that the increment was made necessary because the government is concerned about the plight and future of the Ghanaian citizen.

“Governments posture today is the same even at the difficult times we find ourselves. We have demonstrated this through our commitment in increases in our national daily minimum wage, base pay and pension payment amongst others inspite of the physical impact of the economy.

“Indeed, these increments have been made possible because government is very empathetic towards the people as it should be. It is very concerned about the plight and the future of our country,” President Akufo-Addo said.
