Tamale North Member of Parliament, Alhassan Suhuyini, has criticized the national leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for neglecting their real responsibilities.
In a recent interview with Accra-based Pan African TV, Suhuyini expressed his disapproval of the current situation where the leadership is seeking to coach parliament, which he deems totally wrong and inimical.
According to Suhuyini, the leadership should be managing core party business alongside its leadership in parliament, instead of merely coaching the parliamentarians. He believes that the party leaders are not chosen to manage parliament, but to run the party alongside parliament.
Therefore, when parliamentarians win debates in parliament, the party leaders should be massing people up on the street to complement what parliament is doing. However, the current situation has executives sitting on the bench coaching parliament, which will not take the party to victory.
Oyiwa????????. “London bridge is falling down …”. What I have been saying for years – for which I was called names, is unfolding before our very eyes. The NDC is being destroyed by the BAD leadership of John Mahama, & Asiedu-Nketiah. MPs are now rebelling; Armageddon???? pic.twitter.com/YZYzcOMkbT

Suhuyini emphasized that the NDC’s leaders must wake up and understand that the 2024 elections will not be won in parliament or by the work of any parliamentarian.
“Our party leaders must begin to wake up and understand that the 2024 elections will not be won in parliament. It will not be won by the work of any parliamentarian,” he stressed.
Suhuyini is one of the open opponents of a change in the leadership of the Minority Caucus dictated via a statement from the party headquarters early this year.
The changes were rung barely a month after Johnson Asiedu Nketiah took over as National Chairman. The changes saw the removal of Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader and Cassiel Ato Forson, coming in as his replacement.
In response to Suhuyini’s comments, the NDC’s Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah, stated that the party leadership was not neglecting its responsibilities. He said,
“The party leadership is doing all it can to manage the party and support the parliamentary caucus.” Essamuah also highlighted that the party had recently launched a grassroots campaign to mobilize its supporters and prepare for the 2024 elections.
