The General Secretary of Ghana’s governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, expressed confidence that the country has the necessary human resources to reverse its economic misfortunes.
He emphasized that with the support of Ghanaians, the government will steer the country through the ongoing economic crisis and towards a more robust economy by the end of 2023.
During a health walk in Mpraeso on April 8, 2023, Mr. Kodua spoke with members of the NPP, stating that “Akufo-Addo has stated that the NPP has the men to turn the economy around.
We are confident that by the end of the year, the economy will be in good shape. We just need your support because the alternative is worse, it is empty and hopeless.”
Over the past few years, the Ghanaian economy has deteriorated, with significant negative consequences for both citizens and businesses. To address this issue, the government sought financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and is aiming for a $3 billion agreement over a three-year period.
The Ghanaian government intends to use the IMF program to restore macroeconomic stability, safeguard debt sustainability, and achieve many other objectives. However, Mr. Kodua believes that the government’s competence and the collective efforts of Ghanaians will be necessary for success.
It is essential to note that Ghana’s current economic challenges have arisen from a combination of internal and external factors, including lower commodity prices, fiscal imbalances, and high public debt.
The government’s fiscal discipline, prudent management of the economy, and sustained policy implementation will be critical in addressing these challenges.
Mr. Kodua’s optimism about the Ghanaian economy’s recovery is encouraging. Still, it will take sustained effort, discipline, and collaboration between the government and the public to achieve a robust and prosperous economy.
