The Ashanti Regional Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as part of its efforts to recover huge public debt has disconnected power supply to the Amansie South District Chief Executive’s official residence at Manso Adubia in the Ashanti Region.
About four floodlights were on when the ECG taskforce arrived at the place.
The residence of the Amansie South DCE , Clement Opoku, was among several private homes and public institutions disconnected during the exercise in Amansie South District.
Also disconnected during the operation included some bungalows of the Amansie South District Assembly, Office of the Immigration Service in the district, Ghana Education Service Office, among others.
Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM news team in Kumasi during the operation, the Ashanti Regional Director of the ECG, Ing David Boadi Asamoah described electricity connections to the DCE’S official residence as unauthorized and should not be accepted.
He said his meter has not been captured in their system and need to do the right thing.
He said he has good working relationships with the DCE, who is a friend but has no option but to do his professional job.
“As a professional, you need to distinguish friendship from professionalism… We are only helping him do the right thing,” he said.
