Husbands & wives now suspect each other due to economic hardship in Ghana – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama says Ghanaian homes are breaking down due to the current economic hardships.

He said husbands are accusing wives of mismanagement of house-keeping monies when they go to the market while wives are also accusing husbands over inability to increase the monies.

President Mahama, who was on Wednesday, March 29 cleared to contest the May 13 Presidential Primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), revealed this while addressing delegates and party supporters in Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese in the Central Region.

The three-time Presidential Candidate of the NDC has been in the Central Region since Tuesday, March 28 on a campaign tour.

Visiting the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency, Mr Mahama said it is no fault of wives to ask for increment in “chop money” of GH¢20, for instance, because prices of foodstuff have risen astronomically.

He said when asked about this, the Akufo-Addo-led government has always given the excuse of Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.

“It is all lies,” he said in local language Twi. “We are not kids.”

He said neighbouring La Cote d’Ivoire, which also suffered the vagaries of Covid-19, have their inflation rate at around 7-8% while Ghana’s is above 50 percent.

The former President said the current high cost of living is solely due to the mismanagement of the economy by the Akufo-Addo-led government.

He says it will take the NDC to rescue Ghanaians from the hands of this government.
