Pay your taxes and demand accountability from leaders – Akufo-Addo tells Ghanaians

President Akufo-Addo is advising Ghanaians to pay their taxes and demand accountability from their leaders.

According to him, this is one of the means through which Ghanaians can protect the democracy and development achieved so far.

“The 4th Republic represents the longest period of stable constitutional governance in our history, we should be united in the goal of protecting it, for it is only free, democratic form of governance and the intelligent management of the economy, that will bring the upliftment the Ghanaians want and deserve,” The President stated.

He emphasised that accountability and transparency are some of the core values Ghanaians must adopt to help achieve this goal.

“We should continue to improve on accountability, efficiency and transparency in the delivery of public services,”

“We should continue to pay your taxes and demand that our leaders put them to good use,” he stated.

Speaking at the 66th Independence Day Celebration in the Volta Region, he noted that access to quality education and healthcare should also be mandatory for every Ghanaian.

Ghana gained independence from British colonial rulers on March 6, 1957, and the path to emancipation was marked by many struggles, with many nationals laying their lives for the cause.

As a result, Ghanaians set aside the 6th of March each year to commemorate the country’s independence and take stock of the progress made.

The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose’.
