Ghana is committed to the joint effort to ensure peace, stability in Africa – Akufo-Addo tells Diplomatic Corps

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has told members of the diplomatic corps that Ghana is committed to the joint continental effort to ensure peace and stability on the African continent.

On Tuesday, 28th February 2023, the President exchanged New Year Greetings with members of the Diplomatic Corps, at the Peduase Lodge.

He stated that the New Year Greetings was an annual event that afforded the opportunity to exchange greetings, interact with members of the diplomatic corps, to affirm the shared commitment and dedication to strengthening existing bonds of friendship, cooperation, goodwill and solidarity between Ghana and the diplomatic members’ respective countries and organizations, and to wish them a Happy New Year.

In his address to them, Mr Akufo-Addo said that “Ghana remains committed to the joint continental effort to ensure peace and stability on the continent.

“As the far as the interests of Africa are concerned, we seek collectively a peaceful and secure Africa based on the progressive ideals of fostering democracy, good governance, respect for human rights, social justice and the rule of law.”

President Akufo-Addo also used the occasion to appeal to them to support Ghana in closing the deal that the country is seeking with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“Just as we managed to achieve a staff-level agreement with the Fund in record time in December last year whose terms were systematically fulfilling including the difficult but ultimately highly successful process of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme, I am confident that with the cooperation we have received from the members of the Paris Club and the People’s Republic of China, which sent a delegation from China’s EXIM Bank to Accra over the weekend to meet with officials of the Ministry of Finance, we shall be able to go to the Board of the Fund to conclude finally the agreement by the end of March,” he said.

He added “This will set the stage for the strong recovery of Ghana’s economy. Needless to say, we will hope that all Ghana’s friends will weigh in with words of support at the Fund.”
