Sam George alleges the Second Deputy Speaker has cost Ghana’s democracy the most

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam Nartey George has accused the MP for Fomena Constituency who entered the eighth parliament of the fourth republic of Ghana as an independent candidate and also serving as second deputy speaker of parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako as the most cost to Ghana’s democracy at the moment.

Sam George explained to Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Sunrise Morning that he blames Mr. Asiamah because he expected that his stands on each issue will hinge on principles and merit in consultation with his constituents as an independent member rather than blatantly voting in favour of the NPP side on issues.

“He is my very good friend but I say that the person who has cost our democracy the most in the last two years and in the next two years is the MP for Fomena, the second deputy speaker my very good friend.

“It is always assumed that he will vote with the NPP and so you have a parliament where right now there is 138 with one in abstention who has been representing from America but recently saw her in the company of the president with about 38 V8 vehicles to go and commission a KG block” Sam George stated.

According to Sam George, there is no hung parliament in Ghana and that idea of a hung parliament is a misconception because the 275 number of seats is odd though both NDC and NPP have 137 seats each there is an independent member who always does business with the NPP side.

“Both sides actually have the same number. MP for Fomena is doing business with the majority side, so at every time the business of the day comes down to a vote, they have 138 because he has made it clear” the Ningo-Prampram legislator iterated.

He further argued that it would be ok to accuse the NDC MPs when the vote against subjects or issues that are generally unpopular with the people is less than 136 which represents the current number of opposition MPs. Thus, when the vote is less than 136, then it means there was division amongst the ranks of the minority but when the majority side uses its 138 votes to pass unpopular decisions then nobody should fault the minority side.

Sam George stressed that as an opposition party, it is their responsibility to be the conscience of society and rise against inimical decisions of the government.
