Alan did not betray NPP in admitting economic challenges – Camp

The camp of NPP flagbearer hopeful Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has taken a strong exception to claims that the former Trade Minister betrayed the New Patriotic Party in admitting the country’s economic hardships.

According to the group, Mr Kyerematen’s “confession” of NPP’s difficulty in crafting a campaign message only affirms his character and credibility but not one to be twisted to mean the ruling party has failed Ghanaians.

The former Minister of Trade and Industry while addressing a meeting of chiefs and elders at the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council during his campaign tour acknowledged the impact of the economic crisis on the party.

Although the government is working earnestly, Alan Kyerematen observed that the economic turmoil is somewhat affecting the party’s ability to win the ears of Ghanaians.

“President Akufo-Addo has done well, when the NPP came, there was no Free SHS, but we have brought it. We have also implemented the Planting for Food and Jobs, One District-One Factory, and a number of the policies, but we all know that times are hard.

“We are all in difficulty, we have worked hard but due to the economic hardship, our key message for campaigning as a party for the 2024 election has become difficult for us,” he said.

This brought the flagbearer hopeful criticisms from several quarters.

But a statement from his camp said the attempt to take Mr Kyerematen’s words out of context is only a vile propaganda and an attempt to make him unpopular.

“If the claim is that Alan’s admission of the country’s economic challenges betrays the NPP and the government, then everyone who has made such admissions including the leadership of the NPP and all the leading members of government have betrayed the party too.

“So unless there is a rule that singles out Alan’s words and makes them invoke a different meaning from what all other leaders have said, then this unfounded and constructed propaganda should be put to bed,” the statement said.

Also, “it must be put on the record that Alan has been the most industrious Trade Minister this country has ever seen as evidenced with his role in the realization of the African Continental Free Trade Area and the establishment of over 290 factories across the country. This is simply epic.”

The Project 24 group, therefore, wants all supporters of Alan Kyerematen to reject the propaganda and focus on the long-standing reputation and competence of their candidate.
