Eric Adjei petitions Ghana Police to arrest former Fomena NPP chairman over offensive conduct

I wish to petition the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for the immediate arrest and investigation of Hon Akwasi Nti for offensive Conduct Conducive to Breaches of Peace contrary to section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Hon Akwasi Nti is the former Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Fomena, Ashanti Region. He is a very influential person in Fomena as a result of his political activism.

In a recording of an online TV programme, which has been circulating on the various social media platforms, mostly on Facebook and WhatsApp, Hon Akwasi Nti during his interview with a journalist is seen using threatening and abusive words with intent to provoke a breach of the peace and democracy of this country. Hon Akwasi Nti by virtue of his profile as the former Fomena Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ought to have known that his position put him in a state that anything he says with intention to impute violence and encourage a group of his political party to use violent means to resolve their differences with other members of a political party can only result in chaos and a breach of the peace we enjoy as a country.

A pendrive containing his recorded interview with the journalist has been attached to this petition for your own perusal.
In submitting this petition I would respectfully like to draw your attention to Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) which reads as follows: “207. Offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace.

A person who in a public place or at a public meeting uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace or by which a breach of the peace is likely to be occasioned, commits a misdemeanour”
For these reasons, I humbly request you to use your good office to make the law takes its course and to arrest and cause to be investigated the conduct of Hon Akwasi Nti to preserve the peace of this country. I wish my petition will be given the needed attention it deserves and restore confidence in Ghana’s democracy.

Yours Faithfully
SIGNED:..
