National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has accused the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison, of continuously breaching the laws of the country.
The newly named Minority Leader said Ghana is reeling under economic difficulties due to the decisions taken at the Central Bank under the governorship of Dr Addison.
Dr Ato Forson said the high inflation of 54.1 percent coupled with the recent increase in the monetary policy rate to 28 percent is largely as a result of the depletion of the international reserves of the country.
“We are here largely because BoG has so far printed over GH¢50bn in one year and depleted net international reserves to record lows as of end-Dec. 2022,” he tweeted on Tuesday, January 31.
“BOG’s governor continues to breach Section 30(2) and 30(7) of BoG (Amendment) Act, 2016 (Act 918).”
He warned that all those destroying the livelihoods of Ghanaians by their actions and inaction “will soon be held to account”.
It is, however, unclear what Dr Ato Forson will be pursuing to exact accountability.
