Gob3, a popular Ghanaian dish of boiled black-eyed peas, has featured in many survival tactics, including boosting quality sperm for continuous propagation of the human race.
As discussed on 3FM with Helen Ampofo, a clinical nutritionist explained the science behind the benefits of eating delicious Gob3 for more than satisfying our taste palates.
He detailed the nutrient presence in beans, especially fibre, as one of the main components that aid in quality sperm production.
“It is very rich in fibre, so all foods high in fibre are essential for good sperm quality. It is also very rich in protein. Gob3 has very good protein quality because even in a protein diet, the quality of the protein is also important. Also, it is very high in carbohydrates. So if you look at the nutritional components of beans, carbohydrates are very high.”
Further explanation revealed that beans or cowpeas (as some indigenous call them) are also packed with micronutrients which are important for sperm production.
According to the nutritionist, the perfect Gob3 recipe is boiled beans with your oil paired with some plantain, gari or avocado pear. That is gob3.
