Political Scientist at the University of Ghana Professor Ransford Gyampo has insisted that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been sidelined in the management of the economy, leading to the economic mess the country is in currently.
He however admitted that the whole Government is culpable and the Vice President cannot be spared in the apportioning of blame.
Prof Gyampo had earlier posted that “Part of our problem is the rift between the Veep who heads our EMT in theory, and the Cousin of the President who sidelines the Veep and uses only his knowledge in investment banking to poorly manage the economy.”
But many people, especially opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) took him on for attempting to extricate the Vice President from the economic challenges the country currently faces.
He then clarified that his post was not meant to exempt the Vice President but to bring to the fore a situation that truly exist even though the focus should be on the proposed domestic debt exchange programme.
“Folks, I am told this post has gone hugely viral and has been interpreted as an attempt to excuse the Veep from current challenges. Well, that wasn’t my intention and the focus of the post at all. But of course, I welcome the dissent arising out of the meanings people have read into it. So long as these aren’t insults, they are fair.
That, the entire government is culpable for our mess is indubitable. Also, the rift between the two personalities that I pointed out as being only a part of the problem isn’t a lie.
We need not allow this to divert our attention at all. People’s life savings are under threat and our entire economic system risks being sacrificed just for the quest to achieve debt sustainability. This is a more serious matter that must engage us and we must not misfire and ignore what matters most to Ghanaians,” he explained.
