Police challenged to display in public, the gun used by Iddrisu Abass to shoot the said officer

A group of concerned citizens known as the Patriotic Ghana Movement have challenged the Ghana Police Service, on their allegations levelled against Iddrisu Abass.

The Ghana Police Service in their Facebook page on Sunday, January 8, 2023 issued out a press release on the arrest of two persons; Iddrisu Abass and Mohammed.

The group, upon going through the said press release, challenged the Ghana Police Service to comeout with evidence of the said weapon that was supposedly used to shoot the said officer as alleged by the press release of the Police.

The group, further called on the Police to, as well, act on the several dreadful acts that have been committed by other persons over the years which are of public interest but have been left unattended to.

Kindly find the full statement below.

Re: POLICE ARREST TWO MORE OF THE 16 WANTED PERSONS IN CONNECTION WITH DISTURBANCES AT NDC’S NATIONAL YOUTH AND WOMEN’S CONGRESS; 12 MORE TO GO.

We have shockingly, come across a supposed press release by the Ghana Police Service on their Facebook page on the above headline which can best be described as a forlorn attempt to cover up with their failures.

On Sunday, January 8, 2023, as indicated in the press release issued out by the Ghana Police Service, Iddrisu Abass, alias Jango and Dawda Mohammed Nazir were arrested at Wenchi and Kintampo respectively. According to the statement by the Police, Iddrisu Abass, shot and wounded one of the Police officers and the officers returned fire and shot him in the legs. The statement added that ”both the injured officer and the injured suspect are receiving medical attention and are in a stable condition”.

Further checks from a reliable source contradicts the erroneous impression created by the Ghana Police Service as stated in their press release.

The sources disclosed that at the dawn of Sunday, January 8, 2023, at around 7:00 am, a six member group of dreadlock guys, claiming to be Police officers in plain uniforms clandestinely stormed the residence of Iddrisu Abass who, at that time, was at home with his brother, Fatawu Abass.

Upon arrival at the residence, these six dreadlock armed guys, who claimed to be National Security Operatives, demanded to take Iddrisu Abass away in a handcuff where Iddrisu Abass willingly accepted to follow them but not in a handcuff. One officer who did not accept this from Iddrisu Abass, hurriedly moved in with the handcuff and as he tried to handcuff him (Iddrisu Abass), another officer pulled a gun and fired it from behind, hitting both Iddrisu Abass and the officer who had moved in with the handcuff causing various degree of injuries to the two.

While the statement by the Ghana Police Service suggested that Iddrisu Abass was the first to shot at and wounded one of the Police officers, the same statement was silent on retrieving the gun or weapon that was used by Iddrisu Abass. Can the Police, as they usually do, display in public, the gun or the weapon that was used by Iddrisu Abass to commit that act?

The statement again indicated that ”both the injured officer and the injured suspect are receiving medical attention”. While the injured suspect can be traced to a hospital where he is receiving medical attention, same cannot be said about the supposed injured officer.

The reliable source, upon further checks from the Divisional Police Command, claim they have no idea of such operations under their jurisdiction. The question is, why did these six dreadlock guys who claimed to be National Security Operatives, not report the shooting incident to the Wenchi Divisional Police Headquarters but took the brother of Iddrisu Abass to do that for which the Divisional Police Command claimed not to be aware of such operation?

If the Police, as per the ending of its statement, is still pursuing the remaining 12 suspects to face justice, then one would as well remind the same Ghana Police Service, of the murder of Silas, a trained teacher trainee graduate on June 14, 2020 as well as the murder of the 8 innocent Ghanaians who were killed during the 2020 general elections. The same Police must be reminded of the clash between the NPP Executives and the driver of the NPP MP at Suhum and most recently, the irate NPP supporters who attacked the son of the MCE for Berekum in February, 2022. Is the Police not interested in pursuing these suspects to face justice or the Police is only interested in being used by someone for a political gain?

Again I want to ask what precedent are your setting for the future ?
Must the security dance with political jingles ?

Ghana Police Service act professionally to redeem your long lost image and reputation.
