National Democratic Congress (NDC) opposition leader Andrews Nana Akwasi has refuted claims that Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the party’s national chairman, ignored him.
“How can Chairman General [Johnson Asiedu Nketia] turn down my invitation to visit Kumasi for the Akwasidae?” He probed.
He attributed the lack of his appearance at Ambassador Ohene Agyekum’s residence, when a cake was cut to commemorate the National Chairman’s birthday, which fell on the Akwasidae, on a miscommunication.
“I had earlier communicated with Chairman General to have him meet with all the executives at the party headquarters so that we could proceed together. I was unaware that his campaign staff, under the direction of my organizer and vice, had organized a surprise party for him at the home of ambassador Ohene Agyekum.
He told William Evans-Nkum, “I was never informed of the meeting.”
However, the Chairman General personally invited me to visit him and his delegation at Manhyia Palace, and I complied.
Nana Akwasi explained why he did not sit on the dignitaries dais at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday by stating that there were not enough front seats available when he arrived and he did not want to breach etiquette by sitting with the constituency executives and former appointees.
“I joined Chairman General to greet the Asantehene as tradition demands,” he said.
