NDC has settled on a solid team with experienced politicians – Gabby Otchere Darko

A leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, has described the newly elected Chairman and General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as “solid” and “accomplished propagandists in
all departments”.

In what seemed like an expression of total fear in president’s cousin, he said the NDC’s choice is a strategy to win the 2024 general elections, by settling on the former propaganda secretary and General Secretary who led the party into power in 2008.

“Congratulations to the NDC and their new national officers! Aseidu Nketia is now the Chairman-General (apologies to Kwami!) What is clear is that Ghana’s opposition party has settled on a solid team of accomplished propagandists in all departments. The strategy for 2024 is set”, he wrote on Twitter today, December 18.

General Mosquito, as he is popularly called secured 65.17% of the votes to eliminate competition at the 2022 National Delegates Congress of the Party at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Also, Mr Fifi Kwetey won the general secretary slot with 4,543 votes beating Elvis Afriyie Ankrah (1,408) and Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor (2,595).

One-time Propaganda Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has succeeded in his quest to become the next General Secretary of the largest opposition party.

Certified results from the NDC’s 10th National Delegates Congress released by the Electoral Commission makes Mr. Kwetey as the next chief scribe of the NDC as he garnered 4,543 of valid votes cast.

Mr. Kwetey contested the position together with Elvis Afriyie Ankrah [NDC’s Director of Elections] and Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, outgoing Deputy General Secretary of the party who polled 1,408 and 2,595 votes respectively.

Mr. Otokunor has already called Fifi Kwetey to concede.

Fifi Kwetey replaces Johnson Aseidu Nketiah who held the position for the past 17 years.

Mr. Fifi Kwetey contested the NDC General Secretary position following the decision of Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the outgone chief scribe of the party to exit the role.

Mr. Nketiah rather contested for the position of National Chairman and won.

Mr. Kwetey has experience having served as a former Member of Parliament for the Ketu South Constituency in the Volta Region between 2012-2020.

He personally opted not to contest again in the 2020 polls.

He is also a former Minister for Agriculture and Transport, former Deputy Finance Minister as well as former Minister of State at the Presidency.
