Some delegates of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the Eastern Region have indicated that the ruling New Patriotic Party Cannot decide on who should be the National Chairman of the NDC.
Speaking to InsiderGH.com ahead of Saturday’s National Delegates Conference scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium, they noted that contrary to the claims of some big wigs of the ruling party, there is no way they will allow the NPP the chance to influence the outcome of the NDC National Chairmanship race.
Their reaction comes after the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi claimed that he has a hand in the victory of George Opare Addo in the just ended NDC Youth Organiser elections which took place in the New Examinations Center at the University of Cape Coast.
Mr. Antwi-Boasiako further claimed that retaining George Opare Addo doesn’t guarantee the NDC victory in 2024 but rather, makes it easier for him (Chairman Wontumi) to have a huge stake in the NDC.
Reacting to the NPP Chairman’s claims, they noted that regardless of the tricks of the NPP, they will vote for Asiedu Nketia to be their National Chairman.
According to them, they believe strongly that Asiedu Nketia is incorruptible and cannot be bribed by the ruling NPP, the reason for which he is the right man for the Chairmanship job.
They also indicated that if the party really wants to win power in the next and subsequent elections, all delegates must come on board to give Asiedu Nketia the nod to serve as the National Chairman of the party.
When asked why they believe so much in Asiedu Nketia to win power for the NDC in 2024, the Eastern Regional Delegates made reference to his enormous role in the electoral fortunes of the party over the years.
They also pointed his policies as part of the key reasons why they will vote for him in Saturday’s election.
In a related development, some delegates in the Fanteakwa North Constituency of the Eastern Region have openly declared their support for Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia to be the National Chairman of the party.
According to reports, these delegates have started a Constituency to Constituency campaign to support Asiedu Nketia’s campaign.
