NDC Polls: Asiedu Nketia is our best bet – Ras Mubarak

Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Ras Mubarak is campaigning for the election of Johnson Asiedu Nketia as the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In his view, Mr Asiedu Nketia is not susceptible to manipulation.

“You simply cannot get him to join you to do the wrong thing. He’s straightforward. He’s the type of person who will tell you to your face you are wrong even if you were his best friend. In politics you need that,” he said in a Facebook post.

The NDC will be going to the polls on December 17 to elect its national executives as part of preparations for the 2024 general elections.

Mr Asiedu Nketia and the incumbent national chair Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo are competing for the position.

Ras Mubarak said “The argument against Mr Nketia is that he’s been around for so long. That is a fact. But so has his main contender. The fact is in politics, you cannot throw away experience.”

Below is his full post…

Why the NDC Must Elect ASIEDU NKETIA as National CHAIRMAN.

In the coming days, I’ll share with my followers why Peter Boamah Otokunor, Ph.D, is my choice for the Position of General Secretary and Sidii Abubakar Musah the most suitable candidate for the National Organizer of our great party. But let me start this morning with the National Chairman position.

Love him or loathe him, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is our best bet for the position of National Chairman.

The argument against Mr Nketia is that he’s been around for so long. That is a fact. But so has his main contender. The fact is in politics, you cannot throw away experience.

Asiedu Nketia is not susceptible to manipulation. You simply cannot get him to join you to do the wrong thing.

He’s straightforward. He’s the type of person who will tell you in your face you are wrong even if you were his best friend. In politics, you need that.

The next presidential election would be a fight for the heart and soul of our country. You need a party Chairman who knows the opponent inside out. The current government has messed up so badly, they would do everything- including using the corrupt elements in the police, military and other security agencies to subvert the will of the people as they did in the 2020 election.
Asiedu is courageous. As party chairman, he would deliver.

Asiedu Nketia has always been in support of expanding our party’s electoral college. He’s promised to deliver this as National Chairman. He was one of the few voices at the national headquarters who kicked against a return to the old and corrupt “delegates system.”

If you are offended by corruption and obscene monetization in our politics, like the one we saw in Tamale recently, where each constituency was given 56,000 cedis to vote for some candidates, then Asiedu Nketia, is your candidate for National Chairman. The corrupt elements in our party are happy with the delegates’ system because they can pump their corrupt monies into our politics. Asiedu Nketia is against corruption and against a system that makes it easier for people to manipulate delegates.

A vote for Asiedu Nketia is a vote for opportunities for Dzifa, Ahmed or Kweku, who without money bags have little or no chance of holding key positions in our party.

Asiedu Nketia as party chairman will ensure that there’s equal opportunity for everyone irrespective of class or creed.

He’s a thoroughbred party man. I appeal to our party’s delegates to choose wisely. To choose Asiedu Nketia for National Chairman. He’s the Chainman our opponents are afraid of.
