While this is suit is expected to generate controversy, the government of Ghana is currently in another controversy on the funding of the national Cathedral and housing of judges.
The government is spending an amount of US$5,000 every month to house some 21 judges staying at the area of the area in semi and full-luxury three, four-bedroom apartments in Accra after the demolition of their bungalow residences to pave way for the National Cathedral project.
According to documents intercepted by MyNewsGh.com, since July 2018, the government has been spending an amount of 5000 United States Dollars on each of the 21 judges whose bungalows were demolished and had to be moved to new accommodation temporarily pending the building of a new structure. The government rented for them.
It will be recalled that ten six-bedroom, six three-bedroom and other ancillary bungalows some of which were less than a year old belonging to the Judicial Service of Ghana were demolished by the government to make way for the National Cathedral project in 2018.
After the demolition, rhe government said it was only “temporarily” accommodating the judges and had plans to build a new residence for them in 18 months.
However, as at the moment, report indicates approximately US$4.3million has so far been expended to “temporarily” accommodate the 21 judges at a monthly rate of US$5000 in luxury and mini-luxury apartments at Cantonments, Osu and Ridge areas.
