Investigate the State Prosecutor in the Ato Essien case for fishy deal – Abronye

The Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Bono Region has called for a by-partisan investigation into the agreement reached by the State Prosecutor and Ato Essien as happened in Court yesterday, Thursday, December 1, 2022.

Kwame Baffoe, the Regional Chairman, who questions the competence of the State Prosecutor in the case alleged that something ”fishy” may have happened between the State Prosecutor, who is the Deputy Minister for Justice and Attorney General – Lawyer Tuah Yeboah and Mr Ato Essien and subsequently called for a probe into this incident.

Kwame Baffoe, made this known in a write-up that was attributed to him and shared on various platforms. Kindly read the full write-up below.

Kwame Baffoe Abronye Writes.

We have serious judges in the country who can help fight corruption in the system. No wonder President Akufo Addo has established over 120 Courts buildings across the country because his trust and confidence in the judiciary in fighting corruption is stronger than appatheid.

But let’s ask ourselves, do we have serious state prosecutors as a country? Several corrupt cases are pending, several murder cases are pending. Only cassava and Goat thieves are being tried and put in jail. Why.

This settlement between the state prosecutors and Ato Essien must be seriously investigated by an independent By- Partisan Committee. I strongly believe that something fishy happened at the backdoor. You went to Court with a claim of Gh 620 million cedis being amount of money squandered or embezzled by the Accused persons. This settlement amounts to admission of all the charges including the 620 million embezzlement level against the accused persons. So Ama Ghana should accept GH 90 million cedis. Pls who is pocketing the remaining GH 530 million cedis?

This settlement is no different from the Woyome case. The so called state prosecutors failed to take into account that, the government of Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo spent a whooping GH 21 billion cedis to pay depositors/customers in the banking / financial institutions fraud in the country. This amount could have created a lot of jobs for our teaming youth who are jobless, construct more roads, build more hospitals, build more educational infrastructures etc.

When the offence is murder, state prosecutors will ask the judge to adjourn.

When the offense is about stealing Goat and Cassava under section 124 of the criminal offences Act , the language is simple, my lord or my lady we pray that, the accused be convicted and sentence to prison custody.

When the offense is causing financial loss to state and accused persons admits all the charges, the language too is simple, My lord or My lady this morning we have reached into settlement with the accused persons and same has been filed. We pray that the terms of settlement be adopted. Awurade Kasa na Ama is suffering.
