The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association(GNMA) has called on the Public Services Commission to sack one Mr. Opoku Mensah from his position as Regional Director for the National Service Scheme in the Ashanti Region.

This comes after Mr. Opoku Mensah is said to have stormed the Manhyia District Hospital to insult a nurse for allegedly intimidating his daughter who is a House Officer at the facility.

A statement from the association indicated that Nurses in the facility will lay down their tools if government fails to sack Mr. Opoku Mensah from his position in the next 72 hours and that will be followed by Nurses in the Ashanti Region.

Apart from sacking Mr. Opoku Mensah, they have called on the Management of the Mahyia District hospital to school the House Officer on her role as a member of the Medical Team and the need for her not to feel intimidated by Nurses who advocate for patients.

The statement called for calm among Nurses in the facility indicating that they will ensure that their interest is protected.
